iPhone 17 Rumored to Feature 45W Qi 2.2 Compatible Charger – Details Inside!

In a few months, Apple is set to unveil its latest iPhone lineup. According to Taiwanese regulatory filings, Cupertino has developed two updated versions of its MagSafe chargers, both of which are compatible with the Qi 2.2 standard, thereby promising faster charging capabilities.

A Much-Needed Power Boost

Currently, Apple’s MagSafe charger tops out at 25W, but the two new models, identified as A3502 and A3503, will increase to 45W. This upgrade will enable future models to wirelessly recharge almost twice as fast as before.

As a reminder, the Qi 2.2 standard is the latest version of the universal wireless charging norm. It can deliver up to 50W, though Apple appears to be limiting it to 45W for now, likely to maintain thermal safety and battery longevity.

Familiar Design, But with Longer Cables

According to documents from the Taiwanese NCC database (the local equivalent of the FCC) and spotted by 91mobiles, these chargers have been tested with the iPhone 11 and iPhone 16, confirming their compatibility with multiple generations of devices.

The design remains minimalist, continuing the legacy of previous chargers. They are expected to keep the classic round format (with a charging disc about 10 cm in diameter), but they differ in the length of their braided cable: one meter for the A3502 and two meters for the A3503.

Introduced with the iPhone 12, MagSafe remains compatible with classic Qi standards, meaning all iPhones from the 12 onward can use this new generation of chargers, albeit at varying speeds depending on the model. With one exception, the 2024-released iPhone 16e, which was not equipped with MagSafe technology, limiting it to classic Qi charging capabilities.
