A Clue Emerges!
The buzz started with a trademark filing for the term homeOS
. This was registered on April 16, 2025, by a company named Home Operations Suite LLC. It appears that this entity could very well be a front for Apple. Historically, the tech giant has often used such tactics to file patents and trademarks, thus protecting its upcoming products while keeping them under wraps!
According to our American colleagues, the company has made applications in several countries in recent months, including in Liechtenstein in October 2024, and also in the United States, Argentina, Peru, and a few other countries in April of this year. It’s important to note that the trademark classifications include both computer products and software as well as associated services, which are typical descriptions for a future operating system.
Two Likely Scenarios
First, this brand-new system might hint at an entirely new product: the much-anticipated HomePad. This could be a hybrid device that combines elements of a HomePod, an iPad, and a connected screen, aimed at competing with devices like Google’s Nest Hub or Amazon’s Echo Show.
The WWDC would be the perfect venue to launch such a product, especially since Apple has previously used the event to debut innovative hardware, like the original HomePod in 2017 or more recently the Vision Pro in 2023. In this scenario, homeOS would be an OS specifically crafted to integrate home automation, multimedia, and voice assistant functionalities into a single interface designed for the connected home.
Alternatively, Apple might consider evolving an existing system like tvOS or HomePodOS. This would involve a strategic renaming. Apple could consolidate the systems currently used on Apple TV and HomePod, which are today derivatives of tvOS. Such a unification would strengthen Apple’s coherence in home-based offerings, either to introduce new devices or simply to streamline communication about its ecosystem.
Whether it’s about launching a new product or revamping software, we’re just a few days away from answers to many questions…
