The latest update (version 1.7.2) to the “Xiaomi Interconnectivity” app on the App Store introduces a significant new feature. Dubbed “cloud album,” it enables iPhone and iPad users (running iOS 14 or later) to natively backup their entire photo and video library to Xiaomi’s online storage service.
In practice, the app can now automatically synchronize your snapshots to Xiaomi’s cloud, much like the Photos app does with iCloud.
Who is This Feature For?
At first glance, this feature might seem a bit odd. Why would an Apple user choose to store their photos on a competitor’s cloud? The target audience for Xiaomi is actually quite specific: users who operate within a mixed ecosystem (like myself, for example).
