This model also finally replaces the venerable Lightning port with a much more modern USB-C.

The iPhone 15 enables you to capture high-quality photos and videos, boasts a superbly bright OLED display, offers top-notch performance ensuring access to numerous iOS updates, and provides very comfortable battery life. In our view, the iPhone 15 was arguably the best iPhone of 2023, hands down!

iPhone 15 Pro Starting at $959

The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max continue to feature the 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch OLED panels with Dynamic Island, but this year they boast even slimmer bezels. The frame is now crafted from grade 5 titanium instead of stainless steel, making it lighter. Heat dissipation has also been improved, which could enhance the phone’s endurance in hot weather or during video recording.

The Pro and Pro Max models now feature a haptic feedback action button replacing the mute switch, which can trigger 9 predefined actions and also allows for the creation of your own shortcuts. The heart of the iPhone 15 Pro models is now etched at 3 nm, a global first, dropping the Bionic suffix to become A17 Pro. This new SoC includes 19 billion transistors, 6 CPU cores, 6 GPU cores, a 16-core Neural Engine, plus AV1 and ProRes video decoders.

The GPU, praised by Apple, is 20% more powerful, now supports hardware-accelerated Ray Tracing, and will enable iPhone 15 Pro models to handle AAA games like Resident Evil Village or Assassin’s Creed Mirage. The A17 Pro also features a USB controller that supports data transfer rates through the new USB-C port at 10 Gb/s (versus 480 Mb/s for the iPhone 15).

Apple retains a primary 48-megapixel sensor equivalent to 24mm with an ƒ/1.8 aperture but enhances performance with better low-light results, reduced lens flare, and 48MP photos in HEIF format. The interface for switching between sensors has been redesigned, the new 24-megapixel Portrait mode is more detailed, and the Night and SmartHDR modes have been optimized.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max stands out this year from the 15 Pro by including a 5x optical zoom through its 12-megapixel telephoto lens equivalent to 120mm with an ƒ/2.8 aperture. Both Pro versions feature a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera equivalent to 13mm with an ƒ/2.2 aperture, which also supports macro mode.

Apple hasn’t neglected video capabilities, offering on these Pro models 4K recording at 60 frames per second in ProRes with the option to record directly to an external SSD. The LOG format is also included, enhancing colors in post-production without quality loss.

These iPhones leverage the ultra-wide and wide cameras simultaneously to create Spatial Video recordings (3D video) which can then be viewed on the Vision Pro. It’s also worth noting that the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will be compatible with the Apple Intelligence AI toolkit, set to arrive in France in the coming weeks.
