Canon has introduced two new cameras designed specifically for video content creators: the PowerShot V1 and the EOS R50 V. These models, starting at $759, focus on improved ergonomics and advanced video features. They will be available in April 2025.

Designed with Video in Mind

Canon is expanding its lineup for video content creators with the introduction of the compact PowerShot V1 and the mirrorless EOS R50 V. These models are tailored to meet the specific needs of videographers, whether they are creating vlogs, engaging in streaming, or undertaking more ambitious video projects.

The PowerShot V1 is a compact, lightweight camera designed for straightforward shooting and selfies, featuring a redesigned grip for enhanced comfort. It comes with a fixed ultra-wide-angle zoom lens, 16-50 mm f/2.8-4.5, which covers a range of 17-52 mm for video and 16-50 mm for photography. The camera boasts a 22.3-megapixel 1.4 type sensor, paired with the Dual Pixel CMOS AF II autofocus system, enhancing focus and subject tracking. Additionally, the PowerShot V1 includes an internal fan to prevent overheating during extended recording sessions and a dedicated switch to easily toggle between photo and video modes.

The EOS R50 V: A Mirrorless Camera for Video Creators

The EOS R50 V is an upgraded version of the EOS R50 released in 2023. Canon has equipped it with video-specific features such as a dedicated livestreaming button, a front-facing video record button, and a tripod mount for easier vertical shots.

This model can record 4K videos at up to 60 frames per second with cropping, in 10-bit 4:2:2, delivering superior image quality. It is compatible with the new RF-S 14-30 mm f/4-6.3 IS STM PZ lens, which includes an integrated motorized zoom, available separately for $399. The APS-C sensor combined with the DIGIC X image processor enables high-quality bokeh effects.

For livestreaming, the EOS R50 V offers four different methods: UVC/UAC, HDMI, Camera Connect, and Live Switcher Mobile multi-camera.

Pricing and Availability

The Canon PowerShot V1 will be available in April 2025 for $999. The EOS R50 V will be offered at $759 for the body only and $999 as a kit with the RF-S 14-30 mm f/4-6.3 IS STM PZ lens.
