Final Cut Pro and Camera Update Unleashed, Plus macOS 15.4’s 2nd RC Drops!

Apple’s servers are buzzing tonight with a trio of updates for Final Cut Pro, featuring a dash of Apple Intelligence, and also a second Release Candidate for macOS 15.4. – the first RC of macOS 15.4 numbered 24E246 has been replaced by 24E247. Apple has not disclosed any details about this latest update, but it’s typically due to critical bugs found at the last minute.

Final Cut Pro 11.1 (Mac): Introducing Apple Intelligence

The latest Mac version brings a host of anticipated improvements, particularly in the management of effects and workflow. From speeding up workflows to introducing new creative options and integrating AI, this version aims to expand the capabilities for both professional and amateur editors.

With the addition of Apple Intelligence, changes are also seen in Image Playground, which now allows for the generation of stylized visuals from a description, suggestions, or faces from the photo library.

• Add grading and effects to an adjustment layer above the timeline to apply them simultaneously to a range of clips.
• Find inspiration with Image Playground and use Apple Intelligence to create stylized images from a description, suggesting concepts or drawing from people in your photo library. (Requires macOS 15.2 or later on Mac models equipped with an M1 chip or later).
• Speed up magnetic mask processes with significant bug fixes, performance improvements, and a new keyboard shortcut to show or hide the magnetic mask editor.
• Use the Quantec QRS (Quantec Room Simulator) effect to create natural and transparent audio reverberations that simulate real acoustic spaces.
• Stay organized by renaming audio effects in the inspector.
• Reveal the source of a multicam angle or synchronized clip in the browser.
• Move markers in the timeline by dragging them onto a clip, or remove markers by dragging them off the clip.

Final Cut Pro 2.2 (iPad): Editing in Portrait Mode

The iPad version also sees several significant developments for mobile workflows, including support for portrait mode, making it more natural to use on an iPad, keyboard shortcuts (with quick actions), and 50 fps Capture for greater flexibility in editing. Image Playground is also available, with the same generative features as the Mac version (requires an iPad A17 Pro, M1, or higher under iPadOS 18.2).

Final Cut Camera 1.2 (iPhone): iPhone 16 as a Filming Tool

The Final Cut Camera app is also enhanced with new features tailored for creators on iPhone. It includes the ability to quickly switch to the 48 mm lens (iPhone 14 Pro and above), support for Log files in SDR or HDR for a more accurate rendering of the original scene (iPhone 15 Pro mini), recording of video in spatial audio (at least with an iPhone 16), and videos in 50 fps for improved flexibility in editing.
