Apple’s Best Case Offered Yet?
As you may have guessed, my 2024 favorite is this Beats case, which Didier, who did a brief review, wasn’t too fond of. I actually detested it when I first handled it upon its release. Why did I detest it? Because I hadn’t yet slipped it onto my phone. It felt particularly cheap with its shiny plastic that seemed fragile overall, and this glossy finish I thought was particularly prone to fingerprints… Not great, even though I liked the colors, I wasn’t going to fall for it.
Then, it was gifted to me for my birthday a few weeks ago. Initially, I thought, “Ah, well, a failed gift,” but then I put it on my iPhone 16 Pro Max just to see how it looked in action, and then it was an immediate revelation. For some reason, this very shiny texture gives a feeling of not having a case at all. Maybe because it’s an unusual texture, sending my brain the signal “this isn’t a case,” making the phone feel lighter and thinner than with my previous Otterbox case.
As for fingerprints, honestly, it’s not an issue; strangely, it doesn’t mark that much. And I love the overall feel in hand. It still has all the flaws mentioned by Didier, namely the lack of felt on the inner edges which limits the protection a bit of your iPhone, but no matter, I’m not obsessive with my iPhone which I rough up quite a bit. The plastic buttons are a bit disappointing too; I would have appreciated metal buttons, but anyway, I don’t use it, especially the camera button, which is a huge joke.
So yes, I love this case, I love this beige color, I find the MagSafe symbol elegant, and a little bonus, its very shiny texture makes me think that I can stick a fun sticker on it if I feel like it, and for the first time in my life, I have a case that I can customize with one of my stickers (I have a small sticker collection). So yes, despite these flaws, I approve of it! It’s available here on Amazon.
My Other Favorites
My initial favorite was the Apple Watch Series 10, for a simple reason: its slightly thinner and larger design makes it finally a watch that I consider elegant and not too bulky. Although the change in proportions is subtle, really, having worn every Apple Watch since Series 1, you realize how much this new edition is the culmination of all of Apple’s product optimization. In short, it’s finally “sleek,” and I love it.
Also, in no particular order, I must admit I also have a huge crush on Meta’s Ray-Bans, I even bought two pairs, one for the sun and one clear for indoors. I wear them constantly, often take photos, and even use Meta’s voice assistant every day to ask it silly things, which is awesome. I’m excited to see what’s next.
Lastly, my final favorite is you, readers and colleagues at Mac4Ever. I’ve been writing here for a few weeks, and I love it. Those who know me know that this has been my activity for a very long time in the early days of the internet, then later for many mainstream press sites or at Tom’s Guide. Getting back into it is a real pleasure. I love talking about these topics that excite me, even though sometimes you complain about my digressions.
I love reading your comments and responding, even when you’re being a pain or when you’re spouting nonsense, and I love the teams at Mac4ever, whether it’s the formidable Parisian teams, the Nîmes team with the handsome Didier who puts up with my nonsense, or the flying team, with the wonderful June and the incredible Laurence, who has infinite patience with me, and just for that, she deserves an Oscar.
I hope to continue to tease you with my provocative titles, my off-topic weather rants, and my daily love-hate (delete as appropriate) relationship with Elon Musk.
