A Robust Android Tablet with Snapdragon 8 Elite
The OnePlus Pad 3 has arrived in Europe with a clear target: to compete with premium models without reaching the sometimes extravagant prices of the iPad Pro or Galaxy Tab Ultra. Equipped with the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite, this tablet offers a viable alternative for those seeking a high-performance device running Android 15. Its 13.2-inch LCD screen delivers a 3.4K resolution with a 144 Hz refresh rate. While it lacks OLED, the display promises exceptional brightness and responsiveness. All housed within a metal chassis that’s just 5.97 mm thick—thinner than the iPad Air.
Larger Size, Yet Still Portable
Weighing in at 675 grams, the Pad 3 is bulkier than its predecessor but remains easy to handle. The larger screen size enhances productivity, especially when used with the separately sold keyboard and stylus. The battery life is impressive, lasting up to 17 hours on moderate use, and with 80W fast charging, it can be fully recharged in just 1.5 hours. On the back, OnePlus has updated the design by replacing the previous generations’ unsightly central sensor with a more subtle camera module.
Multitasking as a Core Feature
On the software front, OnePlus enhances its Open Canvas, a custom overlay designed for multitasking. You can stack up to three apps simultaneously, resize them, and switch between them with a simple gesture. There are also syncing features with OnePlus smartphones, including smart connection sharing, file transfers, and cross-device notifications. Integration with Mac and PC allows for remote control and wireless file exchanges.
An Ambitious Price, But Is It Justified?
Priced at $599 for the 12GB/256GB version, the Pad 3 is significantly cheaper than the iPad Air, yet offers superior technical features (though without iPadOS, unfortunately). The 16GB version is priced at $699. At this price point, the lack of advanced biometrics or cellular connectivity might be missed. However, in a market dominated by Apple, OnePlus’ initiative is noteworthy, provided it targets consumers looking for a powerful, large-format Android tablet with strong software support. Note that for pre-orders, you can get the 16GB/512GB version with a $100 discount, making it the same price as the 12GB/256GB model.
