Adobe Firefly Unleashed: Groundbreaking AI for Video Creation Now Open to All!

Adobe is heavily investing in Firefly AI and shifting its strategy. The era of free access as part of Creative Cloud is over; now, users will need a dedicated subscription to use its image and video generation tools. Concurrently, Adobe has launched a beta version of its video generation model on firefly.adobe.com and in Premiere Pro Beta. The goal is clear: to turn Firefly into a significant revenue stream and to compete with OpenAI (Sora), Runway (Gen-3 Alpha), and Google DeepMind (Veo).

Mandatory Subscription to Generate Videos with Firefly

Adobe now offers two subscription plans:
Firefly Standard for $9.99/month, which includes 2,000 credits (equivalent to 20 videos of 5 seconds at 1080p).
Firefly Pro for $29.99/month, which provides 7,000 credits to create up to 70 videos of the same format.

A Premium plan is also in the works, featuring a much higher quota.

Previously, Firefly AI was included in Creative Cloud subscriptions, and users could experiment with some features for free. That is no longer the case: Firefly is now a standalone service, and a specific subscription is required to generate videos or audio content.

A Model Focused on Legal Security and Creative Cloud Integration

To stand out, Adobe emphasizes the legal security of Firefly. Unlike other generative AIs, its model was trained on licensed content, free from branded or sensitive material. This means there’s no risk of copyright infringement lawsuits.

Firefly is also designed to be more user-friendly for creators, with tools like Generative Extend, which allows users to seamlessly extend a video clip by a few seconds. Another feature is the automatic translation of audio and video tracks into 20 languages, using technology designed to maintain the original tone and voice.

All these features are naturally integrated with Adobe’s flagship software products like Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and Express, making it easy for users to incorporate generated content into their projects.

Facing Established Competitors

The generative video market is becoming crowded, with offerings like Sora from OpenAI and Veo from Google DeepMind, which sometimes provide more flexibility or free trials. Adobe has opted for a fully paid model, without a free version, which might deter those who are just curious.

Many view AI as a threat to their professions rather than just a helpful tool. Adobe must therefore demonstrate that Firefly enhances human creativity instead of trying to replace it. Firefly AI has potential, but Adobe will need to navigate carefully to establish its presence.
