Affinity Goes Free, Merges into One Powerful App!

A minor earthquake has struck the digital design world. As hinted a few weeks ago, Affinity indeed had something up its sleeve! Long viewed as the top alternative to Adobe, the app is now a single, free application integrated with Canva. This significant move redefines access to professional graphic design tools.

A Complete, Free Overhaul Without Compromise

Now simply called The all-new Affinity, this latest version represents a historic shift. Starting today, users can download an all-in-one app that combines the three foundational elements of the suite: vector (Designer), photo editing (Photo), and layout (Publisher).

And the big surprise is the price—it’s completely free, seemingly forever! Ash Hewson, CEO of Affinity, emphasizes: There’s no limited version, no catch, no hidden subscription. The same precision tools used by professionals are now available to everyone because creative freedom shouldn’t come at a cost.

Redesigned Environment for Flexibility

The interface has been entirely revamped to allow seamless transitions between vector work, photo editing, and layout, with extensive customization of the workspace.

Users can now mix tools from different modules, rearrange panels, save multiple setups depending on the project type, and even share their custom studios with other creatives.

Affinity aims to foster a real community of exchange, where designers and graphic artists can share workflows and tips, creating a collaborative ecosystem.

Canva Joins the Heart of Affinity

Since its acquisition by Canva in 2024, Affinity’s future was uncertain. Today’s announcement clears up the situation: the merging of the two platforms is speeding up. Canva Premium users now have access to Canva’s AI tools directly within Affinity, through the new Canva AI Studio. Featured are: Generative Fill and Expand & Edit for creation and editing, along with the Remove Background tool for instant cut-outs.

Affinity assures that these features maintain privacy: no user content is utilized to train the AI models. The integration also makes it easier to directly publish Affinity projects to Canva, simplifying sharing among teams or with clients.

What’s Next

With this announcement, Canva and Affinity are redefining the game: a complete, professional suite that is free and capable of competing with Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign combined. Available now on Mac and Windows, the iPad version is set to release in 2026. Both existing and new users can activate it via a free Canva account. By focusing on openness and free access, Canva aims to provide a platform that not only attracts professionals but also democratizes creation tools.
