Alert for M2 Mac Mini Owners: Apple Initiates Repair Program

Apple has recently introduced a new repair program aimed at fixing a rare hardware defect present in some of its Mac mini M2 models. Specifically, a limited batch of units manufactured between mid-June and late November 2024 may experience a startup issue that prevents the device from turning on at all.

A Limited Number of Affected Users

Apple has officially acknowledged that a very small percentage of Mac mini units equipped with the M2 chip are affected by a power supply issue. The company specifies that only the models manufactured between June 16 and November 23, 2024 are included in this program. No other models, including older versions with an M1 chip or Intel processors, are covered by this service initiative.

Check If Your Device Is Eligible

Users worldwide can check if their Mac mini qualifies by entering the serial number of their device on Apple’s official website.

To find the serial number, simply go to the Apple menu  at the corner of the screen, and select About This Mac. The window that pops up will display the model name and serial number. You can also enter the serial number on the page checkcoverage.apple.com to identify the model name.

Please note that if the device has other physical damages that might hinder the repair process (such as a damaged chassis or a corroded motherboard), these issues must be addressed first, which may incur additional costs.

If your model qualifies, you have two options for free repair:

• Schedule an appointment at an Apple Store.
• Contact an authorized Apple service center.

A Standard Apple Customer Service Program

This targeted repair program is a common practice at Apple when an isolated hardware defect is detected (like the crackling issue with the original AirPods Pro).

This is not a widespread recall, but a focused support effort for the affected customers – notably, the issue only affects relatively recent devices that are mostly still under warranty.

Finally, it’s worth mentioning that this program covers eligible Mac mini units for three years following the product’s initial retail sale.
