Amplitude Studio Breaks Free from SEGA, Regains Independence!

After an eight-year partnership, the Paris-based studio Amplitude, renowned for its strategy games, has just announced its departure from Japanese company SEGA.

The Return to Independence

Established in 2011 by former Ubisoft developers and acquired by SEGA in 2016, Amplitude Studios, famous for titles like Endless Space 2 and Humankind, has recently achieved independence through a Management Buy-Out. This means that the company was bought back by its leaders and a group of employees within the studio. Currently, the specific reasons behind this decision have not been disclosed.

However, the studio assures that it remains on excellent terms with the Japanese publisher. They have also stated that their collaboration will continue. For instance, Amplitude has announced that a new patch for Humankind, released in 2019, is coming soon, and they will unveil new projects in January during the studio’s anniversary.

For Romain de Waubert de Genlis, founder of Amplitude: Our studio relies on iconic franchises, and our team is deeply committed to creating the best games possible. With our extensive experience in developing strategy games and two new titles in the works, we are confident in our ability to deliver an exceptional experience to players.

This decision allows us to be more agile in our approach while continuing to shape the vision we’ve had from the start, to push boundaries, and to be closer than ever to our community.
