Montgomery Ive
Jony Ive has chosen a bear named Montgomery as the mascot, which reflects his preference for minimalist and stripped-down aesthetics.
On the homepage of the website, the name LoveFrom is written in black letters, followed by a playful comma that bounces before settling down. With a charmingly easygoing stride, Montgomery then appears on the right and walks across the name (with a slight effect on each letter), before disappearing off the left side of the screen. This presentation was shown on X by Mike Matas, the designer at LoveFrom:
One can notice a slight variation involving an interaction between the comma and Montgomery. It’s likely that more of these subtle changes can be spotted on the homepage. Indeed, with each page refresh, the animation slightly varies, though the concept remains consistent. However, don’t expect to navigate beyond this homepage, which for now, is the only accessible page.
Confirmed AI Project
Fortunately for the company, Sir Ive’s work extends beyond Montgomery. Putting an end to various rumors in recent months, he has confirmed his collaboration with Sam Altman (CEO of Open AI / ChatGPT, it should be noted) on a project related to Artificial Intelligence.
In a detailed profile published in the New York Times, the former Apple designer, now independent, indeed confirmed his partnership with Sam Altman, following numerous requests for major projects: Ferrari, Airbnb, and King Charles III…
But a Vague Project…
The details of the project are sparse. It has been revealed that Ive met Altman through Brian Chesky, CEO of Airbnb. The report also confirms a funding round expected to reach 1 billion dollars by year’s end, but does not mention Masayoshi Son, CEO of SoftBank, who reportedly invested 1 billion dollars in the project last year.
However, we get a few scant details—which shed little light on the actual subject. LoveFrom, Ive’s company, is indeed behind the project. Currently, the team consists of ten people, including Tang Tan and Evans Hankey, key figures who worked with Jony Ive on the iPhone. The team is operating out of a 32,000 square foot office building in San Francisco (around 3000 square meters), part of a complex that Jony Ive bought for 90 million dollars (talk about distracting details)
While the exact purpose of the product and its appearance remain unclear, insiders hint at a new product for the AI era
. The report suggests that the two discussed how generative AI could be used to create a new computing device, because the technology could do more for users than traditional software
. Could this be something groundbreaking?
