Will there be chills and thrills on October 31st? Interestingly, Apple has selected this spooky date, Halloween, to unveil its next financial results. One thing is certain: the special event for the Mac M4 won’t be happening on that Thursday.
Spooky Timing!
On its dedicated web page, Apple has announced it will release its financial figures for the fourth and final quarter of 2024 on October 31st. This announcement will be followed by the customary conference call with investors and analysts, led by Tim Cook and CFO Luca Maestri. It’s worth noting that this will be Maestri’s final appearance as he will step down at the end of 2024, with Kevan Parekh taking over the role starting January 1, 2025.
Last year, around the same time (but on November 2nd instead of Halloween), Apple posted a quarterly revenue of $89.498 billion, a slight decrease of -0.72% year-over-year, and a quarterly diluted earnings per share of $1.46, amounting to $22.956 billion, up 10.79%.
As has become the norm, no forecasts were provided last quarter by Tim Cook and Luca Maestri. Thus, for any estimates, one would need to look to the analysts who are sure to offer some figures.
What to Expect This Quarter?
The last quarter has been relatively quiet, which is typical for Apple. It comes just before the summer holidays and isn’t characterized by any specific promotions. On a global scale, there haven’t been any significant changes either: economic tensions and inflation persist, and production remains controlled.
Product-wise, the iPhone has been stable, awaiting the new models (the launch of the iPhone 16 notably boosted sales of previous models which remain appealing, especially with the delayed roll-out of Apple Intelligence). Meanwhile, the iPad saw a nice uptick, possibly driven by the introduction of new models that shook up the lineup (and reduced the prices of older generations). There was also a noticeable increase in Mac sales, strong performance in services but a sluggish wearables sector.
This last quarter should see a significant increase in revenue, boosted by the back-to-school season and the September keynote. It will benefit from the full-quarter sales of products launched in previous quarters, such as the iPad Pro M4 and iPad Air M2. It will also include initial sales from the Apple Watch Series 10, AirPods 4, and of course, the iPhone 16 range, all of which were launched in September.
