Watch Bands Under Fire for Chemical Composition
According to the study released last December, the bands contain per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)
, also known as forever chemicals, due to their long-lasting nature. These substances are linked to health risks, including fertility issues and an increased risk of certain cancers after prolonged exposure.
The plaintiffs believe that Apple was fully aware of the dangers posed by the use of PFAS in its bands. They particularly reference a document released by the company in November 2022, in which Apple committed to phasing out these chemicals from its products. However, they criticize the company for not clearly indicating to consumers which products were involved in this transition.
Serious Allegations Against Apple
Apple is accused of continuing to sell these bands without alerting users to the potential risks associated with PFAS. The plaintiffs are demanding a ban on the sale of the implicated bands, as well as financial penalties and damages for consumers who may have been exposed. Apple knows that some of its products contain PFAS and that these chemicals are dangerous,

In response to these allegations, Apple has stated that its bands are safe for users. We conduct rigorous testing on the materials used in our products, in collaboration with independent laboratories.
The company emphasizes that its products meet the strictest safety standards and that the bands in question can be worn safely. The company has not yet commented on its commitment to phase out PFAS, nor specified whether this promise includes the bands currently targeted by the lawsuit.
