Bluesky Offers Free Feature Dropped by X – Get the Details!

Bluesky Bolsters Its Authenticity Policy. The social network founded by Jack Dorsey (also the creator of Twitter) has announced it will officially roll out a blue verification icon, under terms different from those set by Elon Musk.

A Direct Challenge to X’s Policy

In a recent blog post, it was stated that trust is essential… We will proactively verify authentic and significant accounts, and display a blue checkmark next to their names.

Previously, the blue check on Twitter was used to confirm the identities of public figures, journalists, or institutions, helping to prevent fake accounts. However, this feature was removed at the end of 2022 by Elon Musk, after his $44 billion acquisition of the platform. Now, only paying subscribers can display this badge, a decision that has been widely criticized for creating confusion.

Bluesky, on the other hand, aims to restore this trust mechanism without monetizing it. The blue check will only be available to accounts authenticated by the network’s team, or by authorized organizations that can distribute icons themselves – for example, a media outlet could certify its journalists.

A “Safe” Space for Online Debate

Social networks have greatly interconnected us, but they haven’t always provided the tools to know who we are talking to, or whether they can be trusted, Bluesky emphasizes. The initiative aims to enhance the platform’s reliability, especially at a time when misinformation and fake accounts are rampant, even on political topics.

Founded in 2019 by Jack Dorsey, Bluesky became independent from Twitter before Musk’s acquisition. Today, the social network boasts over 30 million users, with significant growth following Donald Trump’s return to the White House and the upheavals he has brought to the American digital sphere.

A Pivotal Year for Bluesky

The platform, still in its organizational phase, has been making numerous announcements since the start of the year. 2025 is our year to fully emerge, Rose Wang, Bluesky’s Chief Operating Officer, told AFP. People want to know what’s happening in the world and need a safe space to talk, have fun, and make friends. Currently, they can’t find this anywhere else.

With its new policy of free, non-paid, supervised certification, Bluesky hopes to clearly distinguish itself from competitors and attract an audience seeking reliability, without giving up the open and decentralized ethos that defines it.
