A Glitch in Photo Capture
While testing the iPhone Air, Henry Casey (CNN) discovered an unexpected display defect. At a concert, approximately one out of every ten photos showed black areas
or zigzag white streaks
on parts of the image. A similar issue was also noted on the iPhone 17 Pro, both being flagship models of the 2025 lineup.
The problematic images appear to be taken under similar lighting conditions and there seems to be a connection between the subject (a concert hall with particular lighting) and the LEDs, which cause a type of interference with the photo sensor processing.
Issue Related to Very Bright LED Screens
When contacted by the reporter, Apple confirmed the issue, but clarified that it only occurs under very rare conditions: when the camera is directly exposed to an extremely bright LED display. Essentially, this is not a widespread defect but a specific scenario that can affect some photos taken in specific environments (like concerts, stadiums, multimedia shows, etc.).
Apple added that a software fix is already prepared and will be rolled out in an upcoming iOS 26 update. No specific date has been provided for the release, but the patch is expected to arrive soon (possibly even tomorrow upon first startup as has happened in previous years) to reassure early purchasers.

Launch Set for September 19
Let’s recall that the iPhone Air and iPhone 17 Pro will be available in stores and online starting Friday, September 19. Although the bug is minor and confined to very specific cases, its timing is less than ideal for Apple, just hours before the official release of its new iPhones… In short, we will see tomorrow if this issue has been patched or not during our initial tests and hands-on.
