What’s New in This Update
The list of compatible applications has significantly expanded.
ChatGPT can now interact with: Apple Notes, Notion, Quip, BBEdit, Android Studio, PyCharm, WebStorm, and many more.
For developers, the inclusion of tools like RustRover and forks of VS Code (VSCodium, WindSurf) enables direct code analysis and modification, eliminating the need to switch between multiple windows. This feature is particularly useful for those working on multiple projects simultaneously.
How Integration Works
The feature, called Work with Apps
, is at the core of this new functionality. Once enabled in settings, it allows ChatGPT to access the contents of specific applications authorized by the user. For instance, with Apple Notes, simply open a note, activate ChatGPT using a keyboard shortcut (Option + Shift + 1), and pose a question or request a modification.
The AI can read content from multiple applications at once, understand the context, and provide suitable responses. Users maintain full control over app access, and OpenAI ensures that data is handled according to standard privacy protocols. The advanced voice mode is also a new feature, enabling communication with ChatGPT without a keyboard, which is handy for simple tasks like planning an event or quickly correcting errors.
Gradual Evolution
This update is exclusive to paid subscriptions, such as ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Team, or Enterprise. Free users will have to wait until next year to access these features, and availability on Windows is also planned.
With this update, ChatGPT enhances its usefulness on macOS by streamlining productivity and reducing the need for handling content across multiple applications. Although it must be acknowledged that each update of this nature requires users to slightly alter their habits, which isn’t always easy.
