Chipolo Unveils New AirTag-Compatible Tracker for Both iPhone and Android Users

Chipolo introduces Pop, a new $35 Bluetooth tracker compatible with Apple’s Find My and Google networks. It offers additional features through the Chipolo app, such as distance alerts and the ability to ring your phone.

A Tracker Designed for Both Ecosystems

The Chipolo Pop is compatible with both Apple and Google’s tracking networks. It can only be connected to one network at a time, but a simple restart allows switching between the two. Unlike some competitors like the Moto Tag, which is limited to Android, this flexibility allows you to keep the same tracker even when switching phones. The device is priced at $35, slightly less expensive than Apple’s AirTag.

Additional Features via the Chipolo App

Beyond standard tracking through the Find My or Find My Device apps, Chipolo offers its own app. This app provides access to additional features, such as the ability to make your phone ring from the tracker, or use the built-in button as a camera trigger. It also allows you to receive an alert when an item is left behind, but this feature is only available on Android. These features are not accessible without the dedicated app.

Extended Range, Louder Sound, and Enhanced Durability

The Pop is equipped with Bluetooth 6.0, a newer version that allows for slightly more accurate tracking, provided that the phone is also compatible. The range reaches up to 90 meters. The tracker emits a sound at 120 decibels for easier location, compared to 75 dB for the Moto Tag. It also boasts an IP55 certification, making it resistant to dust and splashes. The battery is a CR2032 cell, which needs to be replaced approximately once a year.

Google’s Network Still Lagging Behind

The main limitation comes from Google’s Find My Device network. It is less extensive and less reliable than Apple’s, sometimes failing to locate an item even when nearby. This is actually a common issue across all Android trackers, not just the Pop. For iPhone users, the Pop works as well as an AirTag, plus it includes an integrated attachment. However, it will not support precise location, which remains exclusive to Apple’s AirTags.
