Apple TV+ is gearing up for a bustling season, with a slate of high-profile releases on the horizon. Leading the charge is the newly released trailer for “Highest 2 Lowest,” a thriller from the acclaimed duo Denzel Washington and Spike Lee, set to debut on the streaming platform on September 5.

The actor and director, who have a storied history together in Hollywood, reunite to loosely adapt Akira Kurosawa’s classic “High and Low,” this time set against the backdrop of modern-day New York. Denzel Washington stars as a music industry tycoon whose son is kidnapped, setting off a chain of events that intertwines ransom demands with moral quandaries.
Before it hits Apple TV+, “Highest 2 Lowest” will have a limited theatrical release on August 15, a move aimed at making the film eligible for major industry awards. This strategy, previously employed by Apple with titles like “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “CODA,” and more recently “F1: The Movie,” underscores the company’s ambition to compete with major players in the industry.
A Film-Filled Fall on Apple TV+
Following “Highest 2 Lowest,” Apple TV+ will continue to roll out big productions. “The Lost Bus,” featuring Matthew McConaughey, is scheduled for October, while “F1: The Movie,” starring Brad Pitt, has already smashed box office records, pulling in over half a billion dollars since its release. The film’s broadcast is expected to follow soon. With this lineup, Apple TV+ is bolstering its premium positioning by leveraging top-tier cinematic talent and stories with significant critical and popular appeal. Additionally, the platform is reportedly close to securing exclusive broadcasting rights for Formula 1 racing in the United States.
In a record-setting year for Apple TV+, the Television Academy has recently announced the nominations for the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards, with the platform’s “Severance” leading the pack with 27 nominations—the highest of any series this season. Overall, Apple TV+ has garnered an impressive 81 nominations across all categories.
