Dive Into the Past: How the First Immersive Film for Vision Pro Was Made

As of yesterday, Apple has released its first immersive film for the Vision Pro, centered on World War II. Today, they’ve shared a behind-the-scenes look at the making of this film.

Is This Immersive Format the Future of Cinema?

Eight months after its launch, the Vision Pro finally boasts its very first film recorded in Apple’s Immersive Video format. Submerged is an immersive short film designed to transport viewers deep into the oceans during World War II. The headset creates an experience as if you are trapped inside a torpedoed submarine, surrounded by the dread and claustrophobia of the encircling deep waters.

For this debut, Apple enlisted Austrian filmmaker Edward Berger, known for his 2022 film All Quiet on the Western Front, which won four Oscars, including Best Foreign Language Film. It’s worth noting that the first adaptation of the novel was also awarded an Oscar back in 1930. Apple also offers an intriguing behind-the-scenes look at the making of this film.

It has been available since Thursday, October 10, through the Apple TV app in countries where the headset is sold: including Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, France, Germany, Japan, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Users in China will need to access it through Migu Video and Tencent Video.

Fall Programming Highlights

A new series of immersive videos titled Elevated will launch starting September 6. A teaser is already available in the Apple Immersive Video section of the Vision Pro. These videos, focusing on aerial journeys, promise to deliver breathtaking views from incredible heights, featuring volcanoes, waterfalls, and much more. The first episode takes place in Hawaii, while the second episode features autumn leaves falling in New England.
