Elon Musk Unveils Tesla Cybercab – See Photos and Video!

As anticipated, Elon Musk has just unveiled the Tesla Cybercab, a fully autonomous robotaxi, at the “We, Robot” event in California. This futuristic vehicle, devoid of steering wheel and pedals, is designed to redefine urban mobility, according to the billionaire.

An Uncertain Future

However, it will be a while before we see this device on American roads, as it must first clear necessary regulatory hurdles. The lack of manual controls raises safety concerns. The Cybercab boasts a highly futuristic design, featuring butterfly doors and a minimalist cabin equipped with an induction charging system.

During the presentation, Musk reiterated that autonomous vehicles like the Cybercab would be 10 to 20 times safer than human-driven cars and would cost less per mile than a bus. Production is not expected until 2026 or possibly 2027 (which could mean at least three more years, given Tesla’s usual delays). Despite Musk’s optimism, the market remains skeptical: Tesla is not the only player in this field, and companies like Waymo or Cruise have already logged millions of miles in autonomous driving. Tesla’s delay in developing this technology is a significant concern.

Incidents That Raise Doubts

Tesla’s driver-assistance systems, such as Autopilot or Full Self-Driving (FSD), have been involved in several incidents. These features do not provide full autonomy and require the driver’s constant vigilance. Certain critical errors, including fatal accidents, have led to recalls of these systems. Regulatory pressure on Tesla’s autonomy continues to mount, and industry experts express doubts about the feasibility of Musk’s promises for a truly autonomous vehicle.

Note also that while other manufacturers are investing in more robust technologies like lidar, Tesla is relying on artificial intelligence and cameras to achieve its autonomy goals. This could be another point of concern for regulators and users.

But Musk Firmly Believes—Do You?

Despite the criticisms, Musk continues to promote the time savings and safety benefits that a fleet of robotaxis would bring, allowing passengers to engage in other activities. However, as mentioned, Tesla still has to prove that it can fulfill its promises. The Cybercab, presented as a major breakthrough, is a risky bet in an already competitive market in the United States.

What do you think of all this? Would you feel comfortable riding in this Cybercab?
