Is Apple Reigniting the Mac Craze?
For years, the iPhone has overshadowed the Mac as Apple’s flagship product. However, could the release of these new, high-performance machines, as initial tests suggest, signify a strong comeback for the Mac?
It’s worth noting that last week, Apple unveiled a new iMac M4, a Mac mini M4, and two MacBook Pros (14 and 16 inches) with M4 processors. This was in addition to the rollout of Apple Intelligence and its latest systems on Monday afternoon, not to mention the launch of new USB-C accessories.
Quite subtly, Apple has also upgraded the MacBook Air M3 (and M2) models to start at 16 GB of RAM. This unexpected announcement was very well received, prompting users to flock to Apple’s Refurb store, where machines with 16 or 24 GB of RAM were available at significantly reduced prices (I myself opted for a 13-inch MacBook Air M3 with 24 GB/1TB to rescue my MacBook Air M1, which suffered a breakdown over the weekend).
But this decision to boost the RAM in an older generation, without raising prices (one might even call these offers enticing), raises several questions about the next generation of MacBook Air. Indeed, one might think that the company has listened to customer feedback, is eager to push Apple Intelligence after a two-year delay (just before Christmas), and is looking to compensate for poor sales of certain products. Some also speculate that this could delay the release of the MacBook Air M4, or perhaps skip it altogether, as happened with the iMac.
