After a sneak peek last month, Google has rolled out a stable version of Gemini 2.0 Flash on its Gemini app, now available on both web and mobile platforms. Designed for everyday tasks, this AI model aims to be faster and more efficient than its predecessor, boasting significant improvements in coding, mathematics, reasoning, and fact processing.
An Optimized Version for Everyday Use
In the app’s selector, Gemini 2.0 Flash is touted as ideal for everyday tasks
. It allows free users to upload and analyze images, but it does not support file handling or access to Google Drive. Previous versions, 1.5 Flash and 1.5 Pro, have been renamed as Previous Model
. Google has stated that these versions will remain temporarily available to ensure the continuity of ongoing conversations.
Meanwhile, Gemini Advanced continues to provide premium features, including an extended context window of 1 million tokens (capable of analyzing 1,500 pages of files), priority access to advanced tools like Deep Research and Gems, as well as the experimental version 2.0 Advanced (listed under gemini-exp-1206).
Enhanced Performance and Improved Image Generation
Google claims that Gemini 2.0 Flash is twice as fast as 1.5 Pro
, and it outperforms the latter in several key areas. The company positions this version as an AI model tailored for routine tasks and truly useful. It features enhanced capabilities across three areas: brainstorming (to boost creation and creativity), learning (the responses should be better constructed), and finally writing (with a better contextual grasp of prompts).
Additionally, Google has significantly improved image generation in Gemini by incorporating the latest version of Imagen 3. This model should provide richer details and textures, better adherence to user instructions, and improved accuracy in image rendering.
Availability
Gemini 2.0 Flash is now available to all users, on both the mobile app and the web version of Gemini. Google announced that the rollout began last Thursday and should be widely available in the coming days.
