Hyundai’s New Release Set to Outshine R5 Turbo – Get Ready for a Wild Ride!

Hyundai has unveiled a new concept ahead of the Seoul Mobility Show, named Insteroid, which is based on its compact electric SUV, the Inster. The aim is to push the boundaries of design and customization with an expanded body, drift mode, and a vibe clearly inspired by video games.

A Video Game-Inspired Makeover for the Inster

The Insteroid concept starts with a familiar foundation: the Inster, a small electric vehicle that has been on the market since 2024 in Korea and Europe. However, this version bears little resemblance to the original model. Hyundai has extensively modified the bodywork, incorporating widened fenders, a prominent diffuser, an oversized rear spoiler, and a striking two-tone orange and white color scheme. The overall design distinctly reflects the world of car tuning and racing simulations.

The wheels differ between the front and the back, and the vehicle features graphic patterns and a unique ‘Insteroid’ light signature at the front. Inside, the atmosphere is more stripped down with bucket seats, a safety roll cage, and a simplified dashboard. The intent is to mimic a custom-built race car, crafted in a garage.

No Technical Specs, but Some Clues

Hyundai has not yet released detailed technical specifications for this prototype. What is known is that the vehicle comes equipped with a Drift mode and features a unique sound signature. The manufacturer also notes that each element of the cabin can be adjusted, and that lightweight lattice-structured materials have been used to reduce weight.

The company also emphasizes the use of recycled materials, such as fabric knitted from reclaimed yarns. This approach aligns with Hyundai’s ongoing commitments to sustainability.

A Concept with No Follow-Up?

The Insteroid concept was showcased at a cultural venue in Seoul during a private event before being displayed at the Seoul Mobility Show from April 3rd to 13th. There are currently no plans to bring this version to market. However, Hyundai does not rule out the possibility of drawing inspiration from it for future models or special editions.

A video game inspired by the concept, featuring an evolving version of the Inster, will also be launched. This is part of the manufacturer’s current strategy to engage with younger audiences through collaborations with gaming platforms.

The Insteroid is a stylistic exercise that relies heavily on the exaggeration of visual codes and interaction with fans of modified cars and video games. Unlike the R5 Turbo discussed here previously, there are unfortunately no plans for production at this time.
