Introducing a unique product, Casio marks its 50th anniversary in the digital watch arena with the CRW-001-1JR, a digital ring-watch. This model will be exclusively available in Japan starting December 2024, priced at 19,800 yen (about $130).
Compact Design Meets Practicality
The CRW-001-1JR is crafted from stainless steel and features a retro LCD screen divided into six segments. It displays the time, date, and includes features like a stopwatch, timezone display, and a visual alarm. Unlike conventional sound alarms, the screen flashes to notify the user. An integrated light also makes it possible to read the time in the dark, potentially putting your Apple Watch in the drawer for a while with such an innovative product.
This ring is powered by a replaceable button cell battery, boasting an estimated battery life of two years. Its dimensions are compact (25.2 x 19.5 x 6.2 mm), making it a discreet yet functional accessory, although it unfortunately lacks connected features like health or activity tracking.
One Size Fits Most
Made using a metal injection molding (MIM) process, the ring is designed as a single piece. It comes in one size, equivalent to a US size 10.5. For those with slimmer fingers, Casio includes transparent spacers to improve the fit. However, there are no accommodations for users with larger fingers.
The design is inspired by Casio’s iconic digital watches, such as the popular GMW-B5000. The design pays tribute to the brand’s legacy in digital watchmaking.
Exclusive to Japan
The CRW-001-1JR will, unfortunately, be marketed exclusively in Japan, with a release scheduled for December 2024. Pre-orders are set to open on December 1st, but no information has been released regarding international availability. You might need to plan a trip to Japan if you want to snag one.
Casio previously dabbled in the ring-watch concept in 2023 with a series of non-functional gacha toy models. With this model, they’re taking a significant step forward. It’s quite an interesting idea, even if it seems a bit unusual at first glance.
