Lenovo has unveiled the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6, a laptop featuring a rollable OLED screen. Revealed at CES 2025, this device will hit the market in the first quarter of 2025, priced at $3,499. It sports a rather standard 14-inch design but extends vertically to 16.7 inches, because why not?

A Rollable Screen Designed for Multitasking
The centerpiece of the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 is its flexible OLED display, which extends vertically using built-in motors. In its 14-inch mode, the screen displays a resolution of 2000 x 1600. Once expanded, it stretches to 16.7 inches with an increased resolution of 2000 x 2350. The screen unfurls in about 10 seconds, either via a dedicated button or a gesture in front of the webcam. This extension naturally provides more space for tasks such as coding or viewing lengthy documents, with the option to split the screen into two stacked windows.
Lenovo claims that the roll-out mechanism is built to withstand 20,000 opening and closing cycles. When in compact mode, the lower part of the screen retracts into the chassis, displaying black pixels to save on energy.
Traditional Setup with Some Limitations
In terms of performance, the laptop features an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor, up to 32 GB of DDR5x RAM, and a 1 TB SSD. The screen, with a refresh rate of 120 Hz and a brightness of 400 nits, relies on OLED technology from Samsung Display. The 66 Wh battery, quite typical for this range, should provide battery life similar to that of a standard laptop.
The ThinkBook Plus Gen 6, however, has limited connectivity options. It only includes two Thunderbolt 4 ports and a 3.5 mm audio jack, which is unusual for Lenovo, a brand known for its versatility. Lenovo has designed the device for use without an external monitor, which could be a drawback for some users. The extended screen is treated as a second monitor in Windows, preventing the native use of certain features such as automatic window docking on the extended part.
An Expensive Innovation
At $3,499, this model is primarily aimed at professionals willing to invest in an innovative solution. It remains to be seen whether this technology can truly be integrated into daily use. The lack of native support in Windows and some visible creases on the screen might limit its widespread adoption, not to mention the price factor…
