LOL: Last One Laughing. The selection includes an impressively diverse group of participants, maintaining the original format of the show while implementing a few tweaks.
A Nearly Unchanged Format
The fifth season of LOL: Last One Laughing
will adhere to the tried-and-true format that has made it a hit. The core concept remains the same: a group of celebrities is confined in a closed space, attempting to keep straight faces; laughter leads to elimination. As with previous seasons, Philippe Lacheau will host the popular show. Prime Video is counting on the format’s consistent appeal, which has captured a broad audience since the show’s debut in 2021.
Diverse Cast for 2024
The new season features a diverse group of ten personalities from various artistic backgrounds. Artus, fresh from his recent film success with A Little Something Extra
released this year, and Muriel Robin, a legendary figure in French comedy, are among the headliners. They are joined by comedians like Vincent Dedienne, Camille Chamoux, Jérôme Niel, and Fred Testot, as well as Marina Rollman and Fatou Kaba. The cast also includes Alexandre Kominek, partner of Florence Foresti, and, in a surprising twist, MMA fighter Cédric Doumbé! It’s an unexpected choice! Each participant’s aim is to win 150,000 euros for a charity of their choice.
Adjustments Following Criticism
Following feedback from Blanche Gardin regarding participant fees and charity winnings, Prime Video has increased the prize fund. The initial amount of 50,000 euros has been raised to 150,000 euros for the charity supported by the winner. Last season, winner Audrey Lamy shared her winnings with finalist Redouane Bougheraba in response to the controversy. The organizers have taken this feedback into account to fine-tune the program.
New Challenges and a Spin-off
This season introduces new rules and challenges to vary the show’s dynamics. While the fundamental concept remains the same, additional set pieces and challenges will be introduced to further test the contestants. Simultaneously, Prime Video is developing a spin-off titled LOL: IRL
. This new format brings the game into real-life situations off the studio set, maintaining the rule against laughter. There’s no reason for Amazon not to further capitalize on this successful concept.
The release date for this fifth season has unfortunately not yet been announced.
