The next iteration of Apple Silicon chips is set to begin mass production in the second half of 2025, possibly extending into early 2026. Once again, the iPad Pro will be the first device to showcase this new chip, which promises significant improvements in performance and energy efficiency.
BYD Electronics of China is expected to be the main assembler of the iPad Pro M5. It’s noteworthy that they are also pegged to assemble the upcoming HomePod with a screen, projected for a late 2025 release.
A 3nm Process
Designed to deliver enhanced performance and superior energy efficiency compared to the M4 chips, the M5 chips are set to be manufactured using a 3nm process by TSMC. It appears Apple has decided against a 2nm process due to budget constraints. A limited trial production run is expected to start in July 2024, with mass production scheduled for the second half of 2025.
