MediaTek Unveils Game-Changing Chip with Bluetooth Range Up to 10 km!

MediaTek has unveiled the Dimensity 9400 Plus, an enhanced version of its flagship chip. It boasts improved AI performance, a more efficient GPU, and intriguingly, an extended Bluetooth range of up to 10 km in a straight line. The first smartphones featuring this chip are set to launch this month.

A Quicker Processor

The Dimensity 9400 Plus, as the name suggests, is a slightly revised version of the earlier released Dimensity 9400. It still uses the “All Big Core” architecture, now featuring a primary Cortex-X925 core clocked at 3.73 GHz (up from 3.62 GHz), three Cortex-X4 cores at 3.3 GHz, and four Cortex-A720 cores at 2.4 GHz. While these updates aren’t groundbreaking, they help MediaTek stay competitive in the high-end SoC market against the latest Snapdragon chips.

The manufacturing process remains the same: 3 nm using TSMC’s second-generation technology. MediaTek promises performance boosts in both single and multi-core operations, with no significant impact on energy consumption.

Enhancements in AI and GPU

The AI core (NPU 890) remains unchanged but has been supplemented with new features. The addition of “Speculative Decoding+” is said to enhance performance by 20% in agent-based AI tasks, which are increasingly common in mobile apps. The chip supports recent language models, equipped with tools like Mixture-of-Experts and Multi-Token Prediction.

On the graphics side, the chip includes a 12-core Immortalis-G925 GPU. It supports the latest image optimization features, such as Opacity Micromap, and benefits from a new image conversion technology (MFRC 2.0+), which doubles the frame rate while reducing power consumption by 40%.

Extended Bluetooth Range to 10 km

The most noticeable new feature is the extended Bluetooth range. With the Dimensity 9400 Plus, a direct Bluetooth connection can be maintained between two phones over distances up to 10 km. This feature does not extend to accessories like headphones, but only to direct device connections.

The chip also supports tri-band Wi-Fi 7 and offers extended network coverage through Xtra Range 3.0 technology. MediaTek has announced that the first smartphones equipped with this chip will be available by the end of the month. Among these are the OPPO Find X8s, realme GT 7, and vivo X200s, which for now are mainly being launched in the Chinese market.
