Facial Recognition-Based Verification Process
By the end of this summer, Tinder will introduce a new age and identity verification system in France, Germany, and Spain. It’s important to note that this system has been already in place in the USA, the UK, Mexico, and other markets. This process is completely optional, but aims to enhance the reliability of profiles on the platform.
To complete this verification, users will need to provide a selfie video and a valid official document (identity card, passport, or driver’s license). Facial recognition technology will be employed to review the submitted materials, compare the images, and ensure that the video has not been altered or artificially generated.
Combating Fake Profiles and Malicious Behavior
The goal of this initiative is straightforward: to combat scams, malicious behavior, and the spread of fake accounts—issues that have become common on dating apps. By strengthening identification methods, Tinder aims to provide a safer environment for its 50 million users worldwide.
If there is any inconsistency in the declared birth date, the app will automatically update the profile information accordingly. Furthermore, the images submitted during the process will be retained for the lifetime of the account, preventing the fraudulent reuse of the same identity.
Certification Badges for Greater Transparency
Users who complete the process will receive a blue badge displayed on their profile, with different levels of certification:
• Blue camera icon: photo verification only.
• Blue ID icon: document verification only.
• Blue check: verification of both identity and photo.

This system aims to provide other users more visibility into the reliability of the profiles they view, while allowing each individual to decide whether or not to undergo this step.
With this system, Tinder is striving to position its app as one of the safest dating services on the market by highlighting advanced authentication technologies. Although the process remains optional, the widespread adoption of badges may encourage more users to undergo verification to bolster their credibility within the community.
