OLED or IPS Black? Dell Offers New Monitor Choices with Cutting-Edge Tech!

Dell Expands Its UltraSharp Line with IPS Black and QD-OLED Models. Let’s dive into what these new models bring to the table.

IPS Black: A Notable Advancement for Professionals

The UltraSharp U2725QE (27 inches) and U3225QE (32 inches) feature the IPS Black technology, which enhances the contrast ratio to 3,000:1, three times that of a standard IPS display. The blacks are deeper, and the IPS glow – a phenomenon where the backlight bleeds through at certain angles – is minimized as much as possible. These features are especially beneficial for professionals who work with visual content that requires accurate color precision.

Both monitors provide 99% coverage of the DCI-P3 color space, making them suitable for photo editing, video creation, or other tasks where color fidelity is crucial. With a refresh rate of 120 Hz, they also support smoother use, although they are not specifically designed for gaming.

QD-OLED for More Immersive Visuals

Dell also offers the Plus 32 4K QD-OLED (S3225QC), a 32-inch display that delivers infinite contrast thanks to OLED technology. Targeted at content creators and multimedia enthusiasts, it supports Dolby Vision and HDR True Black 400. These specifications help achieve more detail-rich images, even in dark areas.

OLED is less suited for extended use due to the risk of burn-in. Dell has incorporated anti-burn-in technologies to mitigate this issue, but it’s something users need to consider based on their needs.

Comprehensive Connectivity Across the Range

Both series stand out with their extensive connectivity options. The UltraSharp IPS Black models are equipped with a Thunderbolt 4 hub featuring a USB-C port that can deliver up to 140 W to charge laptops. They also include an Ethernet port, multiple USB-A and USB-C ports, two DisplayPorts, and an HDMI to round things off.

The QD-OLED model offers a 90 W USB-C port and another 15 W port. It also features five 5 W speakers with 3D spatial audio, providing what is described as an ‘enhanced’ audio experience, although this remains a secondary benefit.

Pricing and Availability

The UltraSharp IPS Black will be available in the USA on February 25, 2025, starting at $699.99 for the 27-inch model and $949.99 for the 32-inch version. The QD-OLED will go on sale on May 22, 2025, for $799.99. Each technology offers advantages depending on the use, with IPS Black being more versatile for everyday work, while OLED targets high-quality visual content. Which one would you lean towards?
