The OnePlus 13S will be exclusive to India, yet its major innovation, the AI Plus Mind system and the physical Plus Key, will soon expand to the rest of the OnePlus 13 lineup through an update. The goal is to automatically organize your screen information.

Replacing the Alert Slider with a New Button
OnePlus is phasing out its well-known Alert Slider in favor of a new physical button, named the Plus Key, intended as a shortcut to its upcoming AI features. This button will make its debut on the OnePlus 13S, a compact model designated for the Indian market, set to release on June 5. Similar to Apple’s Action Button, the Plus Key is customizable: it can change audio profiles, open the camera, initiate a translation, or start a voice recording. However, its primary function is to activate Plus Mind, the in-house AI tool.
Plus Mind: Intelligent Capture and Organization
Plus Mind aims to capture what you see on your screen (bookings, events, messages, etc.), extract relevant information, store it in a dedicated area (named Mind Space), and make it searchable via an AI-based engine. A press of the button or a three-finger swipe on button-less models (like the OnePlus 13) is enough to trigger the function. The promise is to simplify daily management by turning a simple screenshot into a contextualized reminder or calendar entry. This is quite an intriguing concept in theory!
An AI Still Under Development but Promising
During initial tests conducted by journalists, the content recognition by Plus Mind worked well, particularly in automatically creating events from texts or images. However, the organization within Mind Space remains quite basic. Users still need to manually sort content. OnePlus plans to roll out an update later this year to add automatic categorization. Looking further ahead, the company talks about a personalized AI assistant built on a Large Language Model (LLM) that could analyze your habits.
A Suite of AI Tools in Development
Plus Mind is just the initial component of a broader set. OnePlus is also developing AI VoiceScribe, for recording, summarizing, and translating calls or meetings, and AI Call Assist, which offers summaries and real-time translations. These features are currently limited to India but could expand elsewhere depending on local regulations. Other more playful tools, such as AI Reframe for photo cropping and AI Best Face 2.0 for correcting closed eyes in group photos, are expected this summer.
With Plus Mind, OnePlus aims to catch up with AI features already visible in products from Samsung, Google, or Nothing. The comparison to Nothing’s Essential Space is clear, but OnePlus offers more flexible options, particularly through its remappable button and associated gestures. It remains to be seen if the final implementation will live up to its promises, especially on models already released.
