The latest version of the Oura Ring, Oura Ring 4, has just been unveiled, featuring significant advancements in design and measurement accuracy. Designed to monitor health metrics such as heart rate, oxygen saturation, and body temperature, this new iteration incorporates enhanced sensors.
Enhanced Sensors and Improved Performance
The Finnish manufacturer Oura states that the enhancements in its smart ring, which include new onboard technologies, allow for more accurate readings compared to previous models (according to their own internal studies, though real-world verification is needed).
The sensors in the Oura Ring 4 have been repositioned to achieve greater accuracy. Blood oxygen level measurements have improved by 30%, while heart rate reading accuracy has increased by 7% during the day and 31% at night. These sensors, previously slightly raised on the ring’s surface, are now integrated into a flatter profile, enhancing comfort. These adjustments should also reduce data loss caused by finger movements throughout the day.
Slimmer Design and Enhanced Battery Life
As mentioned, the design of the Oura Ring 4 has been refined from its predecessor. The ring is now available in twelve sizes, with a choice of six colors, including a new matte black option. Oura has also improved the battery life, allowing the ring to operate up to eight days without needing a recharge. This duration surpasses that of its direct competitor, the Samsung Galaxy Ring.
Redesigned App
The mobile app for the Oura Ring has been overhauled to provide smoother navigation. User data is now organized into three main sections: Today
, Key Metrics
, and My Health
. Additional features, such as the automatic detection of 40 types of activities and fertility predictions, have also been included. Access to Oura Labs, a platform for testing new features, is now available to Android users, in addition to iOS users.
Pricing and Availability
The Oura Ring 4 is now available for pre-order in France. It will start shipping on October 15. The base price is 399 euros, with models in brushed silver or matte black finishes priced at 449 euros. Beyond the initial cost, users will need to subscribe to a monthly fee of 6 euros or an annual fee of 70 euros to access all the ring’s features.
