The eagerly awaited Pebble Time 2 is finally taking shape. Eric Migicovsky, the founder of the smartwatch brand, has unveiled the final design of his latest model. This new iteration features a stainless steel casing, enhanced functionalities, and continues to promise an impressive one-month battery life.

A “Premium” Stainless Steel Design
In a video released today, Eric Migicovsky showed off a design that has significantly evolved from the initial concepts seen in March. The new Pebble Time 2 boasts a casing made entirely of stainless steel, including the front, back, and buttons.
The overall appearance is more sleek and refined, featuring flat glass to reduce glare and textured buttons for a better grip. The casing will be available in several colors, including black and silver, with accents in red or blue.
RGB Backlighting and Compass
Several new hardware features have also been confirmed. The renowned always-on “e-paper” color display will now include RGB backlighting, allowing users to customize the color and temperature of the lighting.
The watch also incorporates a compass, an additional microphone to enhance call quality, and, of course, all the modern sensors, including a heart rate monitor. All these features are packed while maintaining the brand’s hallmark promise: a 30-day battery life.
A Project for Early Adopters
As a reminder, Pebble is a pioneering brand in smartwatches, which went bankrupt before being “resurrected” by its original founder. This new model is a crowd-funded project, aimed at a community that misses the simplicity and durability of the early so-called smartwatches.
The Pebble Time 2 is currently available for pre-order at $225, with delivery expected later this year.
What’s the Verdict?
This project is quite a breath of fresh air in the smartwatch market. In an era where all manufacturers seem to mimic each other, it’s genuinely refreshing to see a brand reborn with a slightly different philosophy.
This new Pebble Time 2 stands as the antithesis of the Apple Watch. While Apple continues to add more features and power to its watch, sacrificing battery life which barely lasts a day, Pebble bets on the opposite: simplicity, durability, and an always-readable display. It’s definitely a niche market, but there is a real demand for products that are more “calm” and less demanding on a daily basis. Have you ever owned a Pebble watch during its heyday?
