Refreshed Design and New Colors Unveiled
Images obtained by Android Headlines reveal the four colors of the Pixel 9a: Obsidian (black), Porcelain (white), Peony (pink), and Iris (purple). These colors seem to echo those found in other models of the Pixel 9 series, maintaining a visual continuity.
What really stands out is the revamped design of the camera system. Unlike previous generations, the dual camera sensors would barely protrude from the frame, a welcome change that would provide better ergonomics and prevent wobbling when placed on a table. With slightly modified dimensions (154 x 73 x 8.9 mm), this Pixel 9a would be sleeker while incorporating a larger battery.
Enhanced Battery and Adequate Performance
The Pixel 9a would feature a 5,100 mAh battery, the largest ever in a smartphone from the range. This capacity would even surpass that of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, which is considerably more expensive. Charging speeds would remain the same: 23W wired and 7.5W wireless.
Under the hood, Google would likely opt for a Tensor G4 processor, paired with 8 GB of RAM. Its 6.3-inch OLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate would ensure smoother visual performance. However, given that Tensor chips have previously lagged behind competitors, the user experience would heavily rely on software optimization.
Revised Camera, No Telephoto Lens
Beyond the refreshed design, the Pixel 9a would also feature a new main camera sensor of 48 megapixels, replacing the old 64-megapixel unit. It would be equipped with an f/1.7 aperture and a 1/2″ sensor size, aimed at enhancing low-light photo quality. The ultra-wide and selfie cameras would remain at 13 megapixels.
Google would still not offer a telephoto lens, preferring to use software solutions to improve digital zoom capabilities.
Price and Release: A Strong Contender in the Mid-Range Market
Pre-orders for the Pixel 9a are expected to open on March 19, with prices holding at $499 for the 128 GB version and $599 for the 256 GB model. This pricing would position it against the upcoming iPhone SE 4, which could be announced soon.
With these new visuals confirming its colors and redesigned camera, the Pixel 9a appears to sharpen its position in the affordable smartphone segment. If Google manages the optimization well, it could be a serious alternative in this price range.
