An Update to Address Key Flaws
About a year and a half after its debut, the Vision Pro is set to receive its first “spec bump”. Journalist Mark Gurman reports that this new version will aim to fix the two most frequent criticisms from early users.
First, performance. The current Vision Pro is equipped with an M2 chip, which is starting to show its age. The new model would upgrade to the much more powerful M4 chip, especially beneficial for tasks involving artificial intelligence thanks to an enhanced Neural Engine.
Next, and perhaps most crucially, comfort. Apple is reportedly developing a completely redesigned strap to better distribute the weight of the headset and reduce neck and head fatigue.
A “Refresh” While Waiting for the Real New Model
However, don’t expect a groundbreaking change. This update is purely iterative. The overall design of the headset and its weight (around 650g) would remain unchanged.
According to Gurman, this model would act as a “bridge” to keep interest in the platform, while waiting for a completely redesigned version that’s lighter and more affordable, not expected until 2027.
What About the Price?
Price is notably absent from these rumors. Bloomberg’s sources do not mention any price change. If this new version continues to be sold at $3499 (over 4000 euros in France), it’s unlikely to attract a broader audience.
This update appears to be aimed primarily at professionals and developers, to show them that Apple continues to invest in its product, despite sales that remain quite confidential so far.
What’s the Verdict?
This strategy is quite typical for Apple. They launch an innovative but imperfect first version of a product, then refine it year after year. This follows the logic of the iPhone “S” models. By addressing performance and comfort, Apple is responding to the most pressing criticisms.

However, this will not solve the core issues of the Vision Pro: its steep price and the lack of a “killer app” for the mainstream market. Apple is racing against time against competitors like Meta and Samsung, who are quickly advancing with less expensive products. This Vision Pro “1.5” is a necessary step, but the real battle will take place in 2027. What holds you back the most from buying a Vision Pro: the price, the comfort, or the lack of applications?
