MSI Unveils Two New Gaming Devices: Claw 8 AI+ and Claw 7 AI+, Both Featuring Intel Lunar Lake Processors for Top-Tier Performance and Versatility.
Robust Technical Specifications
The MSI Claw 8 AI+ and Claw 7 AI+ both feature the Intel Core Ultra 7 258V processor and an integrated Intel Arc 140V GPU. These models come equipped with 32GB of LPDDR5x-8533 RAM and a PCIe Gen4 SSD, providing up to 1TB of storage for the Claw 8 and 512GB for the Claw 7. The displays vary slightly: the Claw 8 boasts an 8-inch touchscreen with 1920×1200 resolution, while the Claw 7 has a 7-inch screen with 1920×1080 resolution. Both models offer a 120Hz refresh rate, 100% sRGB coverage, and a brightness of 500 nits.
Design and Battery Life
The Claw 8 and Claw 7 share a similar design, although the Claw 8 is larger and heavier (795g compared to 675g). This additional weight is partly due to an 80Wh battery, which offers better battery life than the 54.5Wh battery in the Claw 7. Both models incorporate Hall effect joysticks and triggers for enhanced precision. The Claw 8 features a ‘sandstorm’ finish, while the Claw 7 remains black.
These consoles also feature advanced connectivity options with two Thunderbolt 4 ports, a microSD card reader, a 3.5mm audio jack, and a fingerprint sensor. The Claw 8 supports Wi-Fi 7, whereas the Claw 7 uses Wi-Fi 6E. MSI also offers the App Player, which allows for playing Android and Windows games, broadening the devices’ utility.
Market Positioning
With prices at $899 for the Claw 8 and $799 for the Claw 7, these models are positioned to compete with devices like the ROG Ally X. MSI highlights the improved battery life and 20% better graphic performance, thanks to the efficiency of the Lunar Lake processors. Still, we’ll need to get our hands on them to verify these claims. Pre-orders are open in the United States, with availability starting December 25. For Europe and France, we’re keeping an eye out.
