Samsung has officially launched its mobile cloud gaming service for Galaxy devices in the United States. Following a beta testing phase that began in 2023, the platform is now available to users with compatible Galaxy devices.
Play Without Downloading, Even on Mobile
Samsung’s cloud gaming service, accessible through the Game Launcher (Gaming Hub) app, enables playing Android games without the need for downloads. Currently, 23 titles are available, including Candy Crush Saga, Honor of Kings, and Monopoly Go.
The technology leverages compatibility with native Android APKs and incorporates existing monetization models like in-app purchases. This method can help reduce storage constraints for users and allows games to be played instantly, without the need to create an account or install any files.
An Optimized Model for Publishers
Samsung also highlights the benefits for game publishers. By eliminating the intermediate steps of downloading, the service enhances the efficiency of advertising campaigns. According to the company, 50% of users who clicked on an ad during the beta phase began playing immediately, a rate ten times higher than the industry average.
For publishers, this solution means lower acquisition costs and better conversion rates, while also expanding access to new audiences. Jong Woo, the vice president in charge of gaming services, emphasized that this model significantly increases player engagement and optimizes returns on advertising investments.
Samsung also noted a 149% increase in active monthly users on Galaxy devices in North America during the test phase. Given the success of the trial, an expansion of the service to other regions could occur in the coming months.
A Strategy Aligned with Market Trends
The launch comes at a time when the acceptance and adoption of cloud gaming are increasingly significant. By eliminating downloads, Samsung is following a similar approach to other streaming services, such as Xbox Cloud Gaming. What do you think about this type of approach? Do you think it makes sense on mobile?
