Eve Weather Overview
Since last summer, Eve has updated many of its products to include Thread compatibility, allowing its outdoor weather station, Eve Weather, to function with smart home ecosystems beyond just Apple’s, thanks to Matter.
Initially, Eve committed to ensuring all its products were Matter-compatible with the launch of the standard in 2022. Following successive updates to many devices, including motion detectors, Door & Window sensors, the Energy plug, the Light Switch, Aqua irrigation controller, Thermo/Room sensors, the Water Guard leak detector, and the Weather station, the manufacturer has now added Matter compatibility to these devices.
Transition of Eve Weather Station to Matter
Provided you have a compatible edge router, whether it’s an Apple TV 4K or HomePod by Apple, Amazon’s Echo and Eero devices, or Google Home and Samsung SmartThings gadgets, you’ll be able to access data from the Eve Weather station on both iPhone and Android devices. Various virtual assistants across these platforms can also access the station’s data to respond to voice queries.
However, it’s important to note that switching to Matter might not be beneficial if you already use Apple devices and your HomeKit setup is functioning well. Moreover, once you transition to Matter, reverting back to the original HomeKit configuration will not be possible. Eve warns users with the following advice before making the switch to Matter:
A Matter configuration code will be generated during the upgrade. This code will completely replace the HomeKit configuration code.If you ever reset your Eve device, this code will be the only way to re-add the device to your home, and it must be kept confidential. The Matter configuration code will be automatically stored in the Eve app, but you can also save it on another device via AirDrop or email, store it in Photos or Files, or print it out.
As evident from the image above, not all features will be available on every ecosystem, and Apple’s platform remains the most comprehensive for the Eve Weather.
