A few weeks ago, we finally got a chance to test its sportier variant, the Audi SQ6, on the winding roads of Lubéron. So, how does this hefty nearly 2.5-ton vehicle perform when driven with a bit of spirit? Find out in a video shot entirely on an iPhone 16 Pro… and without microphones!
Spot the Seven Differences
How do you distinguish an SQ6 from a Q6 with an S-Line trim? It’s a good question because during our test, it was quite a challenge to tell the vehicles apart.
In reality, Audi has kept a low profile with this model, which features a specific logo at the back:
You’ll also notice the SQ6 symbol on the red-painted brake calipers (grey option available) with an S logo:
Other subtle indicators include matte silver external mirror housings and a small logo on the side of the car:
Inside, the ‘S’ appears discreetly on the seats and the steering wheel:
Finally, the start button is also surrounded by red:
And that’s about it! Too subtle, you might say? Well, the S-Line version is already quite sporty, featuring a large diffuser, a modest spoiler, and an enhanced cheetah stance due to the asymmetry between the front and rear wheels. It’s sporty, yet understated, regardless of the model.

SQ6: Power and Torque!
Remember, the Q6 currently offers three engines:
• Quattro with 387HP (5.9s and 580NM)
• SQ6 with 489HP (4.4s 275+580NM)
• Top speed between 210 and 230 km/h
Impressive, right? Well, not exactly! In fact, a Tesla Model Y Performance or a XPeng G9, both almost half the price of our well-equipped model, achieve 0 to 100 km/h in under 4 seconds.
Rest assured, the SQ6 is still incredibly fast, with well-sized motors and even if you’re upgrading from an SQ5 with a combustion engine, you’ll be absolutely amazed by the performance. It’s just a bit frustrating to pay a premium for a model that’s less performant on paper than a simple Tesla or a large Chinese SUV.
Audi definitely compensates with a chassis and suspension that are simply exemplary, which will quickly end any comparisons. In dynamic
mode, with lowered suspensions, the SQ6 hugs the road and body roll is greatly minimized. The asymmetry of the wheels provides a solid base for the car, and with our Bridgestone Turanza t005 255/45/R21 tires, we experienced absolutely no loss of traction.
The acceleration from 0 to 130 km/h at the toll booth feels a bit slow compared to more powerful electric vehicles, like the RS E-Tron GT. But after all, the SQ6 remains a family car, a reality that quickly catches up with speedy dads.
Q6 or SQ6?
So, Q6 or SQ6? Aesthetically, at least, the wilder version of the Q6 doesn’t stand out much.
However, on the road, the SQ6 is significantly more dynamic, with truck-like torque, an extra 100 horsepower, and plenty of thrills for those who enjoy a spirited drive.
Regardless of your choice, both versions continue to excel with their exceptional range, ultra-fast charging capabilities, a new system based on Android Automotive, and of course, a meticulously crafted interior, as you discovered in our full review this summer.
