Frozen and Trapped?
For the past couple of months, visitors to the Milton Keynes ice rink in the UK have been treated to an unusual sight beneath the ice—a very recognizable bright pink-cased iPhone stuck right in the middle of the rink. However, retrieving it is currently impossible without compromising the integrity of the entire ice surface.
In a rather amusing backstory, a father had to face some serious questioning. An employee, having lost his own smartphone, borrowed his daughter’s. Unfortunately, while he was working overnight at the rink as it was being filled with water before freezing, the iPhone was trapped. Did it fall from his pocket? Was it a prank?
Regardless of how it happened, the phone is visible with its three lenses—it appears to be a Pro model. It remains uncertain if the phone will survive the winter until January 5, the scheduled date for the rink’s dismantling.
How Does an iPhone Fare Against Cold and Ice?
Apple devices undergo numerous durability tests, but the most remarkable tales often occur unexpectedly, outside Apple’s labs: a fall from an airplane at 16,400 feet, extended submersions in water, oil, or even beer… iPhones have endured it all! In a notable incident from 2015, an iPhone survived five days inside a block of ice. However, the outcome for this particular model is yet to be seen.
