Updates Across Multiple Models
Sony has released these updates for several of its flagship products like the WH-1000XM5 headphones, WF-1000XM5, and the LinkBuds S earbuds. This update allows users to easily locate their devices using Google Find My Device. Targeted at those who worry about losing their earbuds, this feature uses Bluetooth technology to track and show the location of your devices through a Google account. Note that this feature is only available when the device is connected in Classic Audio
mode.
Enhanced Device Management with Auto Switch
Beyond tracking, the update introduces the Auto Switch feature, which allows seamless switching from one device to another without interruption. For instance, if you’re using your earbuds with a phone and want to switch to a tablet, the connection shifts automatically. This makes daily use simpler for users who alternate between multiple devices. However, only the latest headphones and earbuds such as the WH-1000XM5 and WF-1000XM5 are equipped with this feature.
Introducing the New Sony Sound Connect App
Sony has also revamped the companion app for its devices, now called Sound Connect. This change includes a visual overhaul, featuring a cleaner design. The interface now offers simplified navigation with tabs like My Device
and Discover
, allowing for quick customization of features. It also provides easy access to commonly used settings or delivers recommendations based on your device usage.
Security and Compatibility Enhancements
And that’s not all! The update is not limited to tracking and connectivity features. It also includes security enhancements for the WH-1000XM5 and WF-1000XM5 headphones, as well as compatibility with Google Fast Pair. This technology enables a quick and optimized connection with Android devices, simplifying the pairing process. Users can download this update via the Sound Connect app, available on the Google Play Store.
