In the End, There Can Be Only One
As expected, it’s a Battle Royale game set in the Squid Game universe. Players will compete to be the last one standing among a host of other online participants – reminiscent of the Highlander concept. This setup aligns perfectly with the show’s theme, where deadly games gradually eliminate the contestants.
Some of the challenges are inspired by the series, including “Red Light, Green Light,” “Ice Hop,” along with new challenges like obstacle courses similar to those in Fall Guys. Although inspired by the grim and dramatic series, the game adopts a more light-hearted and accessible visual style.
For now, there are no plans to release versions for consoles or PC. Pre-registrations are open on the App Store and Google Play, which include a bonus skin at the game’s launch.
Launch Context
The game’s release strategically coincides with the highly anticipated arrival of Squid Game Season 2, which will be available on Netflix starting December 26, 2024. This simultaneous launch is designed to keep fans excited and draw new viewers to the series. The game could become a staple on mobile devices by the end of the year, appealing to both fans of the series and battle royale enthusiasts.
As a reminder, the Duolingo collaboration titled “Learn Korean or Else” introduces over 40 key words and phrases from the show to the Duolingo app, including “dalgona,” the sweet treat featured in the third episode of the first season. There will also be lessons teaching viewers phrases such as “trust no one,” “let’s play a game,” or “you have been eliminated.”
