Tesla Alert: iPhone App Update Disables Keys – What You Need to Know!

Tesla is known for consistently updating both their vehicles and their mobile apps.

In version 4.48.0, the manufacturer has introduced an interesting feature: the activation of the B-pillar camera. This is a high-mounted sensor that allows visibility of the right or left front side of the vehicle.

Until now, only the camera located at the wing level was available, which only provided rearward views. Such updates are really cool because they add new features to the car for free and without needing a trip to the service center.

Beware, App Update May Disable Keys!

For those looking to update the software, be careful, as many users have reported that this latest update disables the vehicle’s keys!

In the meantime, Tesla has released a patch (4.48.1), but with automatic app installations, it’s possible that your software is still at version 4.48.0.

I didn’t encounter this issue with my car, but it might only affect certain models. Others have complained that the sentry mode was deactivated, but we haven’t noticed such a bug either.

In any case, make sure to carry a physical key card with you, especially if you are far from home. And just like with a Mac or an iPhone, it’s best not to start an update while you are traveling. I always advise waiting a bit before installing updates, just to avoid being the first to run into any potential bugs.
