Fatal Collision in Celles-sur-Belle
Last night, Saturday, October 12, around 10:30 PM, a fatal crash occurred on the bypass of Celles-sur-Belle, in Deux-Sèvres. A Tesla, carrying four passengers, veered off the road under mysterious circumstances before striking multiple road signs. Shortly after the impact, the vehicle burst into flames, trapping the occupants inside. Rescue teams found the four victims completely burned. Among them were three young employees from a local restaurant and a 65-year-old man from Niort.
The Three Young Victims Were Colleagues at the Same Restaurant
The three young victims, aged 16, 21, and 25, were employees at the L’Argentière restaurant in Melle. The owner of the restaurant, clearly devastated by the tragedy, expressed his grief and that of his team. They had just finished their shift and went for a ride with a client. It’s a catastrophe, we are at a loss
, he stated. The 65-year-old man, who owned the Tesla, was a regular customer and a friend of the restaurant.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the causes of this deadly accident. Initial findings suggest the car left the road before hitting the signs, but the exact reasons for this are still very unclear. The condition of the car, completely destroyed by the fire, of course, makes the investigation more complicated. Autopsies are planned to identify the bodies and carry out toxicological analyses to better understand the circumstances of the crash.
Risks Associated with Electric Vehicle Fires
This incident has once again sparked debate over the fire risks associated with electric vehicles in accidents. This is not the first time such an incident has occurred with a Tesla. Last March, a similar incident claimed the life of a driver near Toulouse. In the United States, in August 2024, a spectacular fire followed a crash involving a Tesla Semi on a highway in California. In July 2024, another fatal accident occurred in Virginia, where a Tesla collided with a truck while Autopilot was engaged.
