Transform Your Mac Mini M4 into a Classic 1984 Macintosh – Here’s How!

Immersed in a distinctly retro vibe (unlike the outdated Apple Watch Series 1), here’s a product that’s especially appealing to the nostalgic among us. Its purpose is simple: to transform a Mac mini M4 into a vintage Macintosh 128 from 1984.

A Macintosh 128 Flavored with M4 Tech!

Of course, this is all about design and aesthetics: giving the latest Mac mini M4 the look of the original Macintosh. But it’s more than just a superficial makeover; this docking station also adds a slew of features ranging from extra ports to welcomed storage expansions.

Our American colleagues have received a unit packed with… 13-in-1 capabilities that are truly enticing. Known as the Wokyis M5, it snaps onto your Mac mini and connects via a simple USB-C port.

Once installed, you can enjoy a powerful 5-inch (!) IPS display with a 1280 × 720 resolution, 4 USB-A ports (10 Gbit/s), 2 USB-C ports (10 Gbit/s) plus an additional USB-C port, 2 SD + microSD 4.0 card readers, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, 1 HDMI input, and a slot for an M.2 NVMe SSD, supporting up to 8 TB (with a transfer speed of 10 Gbit/s).

It’s worth noting this SSD slot that allows adding up to 8 TB of storage. But it’s really the design that steals the show: a sleek casing in the classic beige tone, measuring 145 × 131 × 154 mm, and weighing a total of 510 grams.

Currently on Kickstarter

Obviously, the 5-inch screen is not going to replace your main monitor. The idea is more about offering an additional display for apps like Music, Messages, or even for clock and reminders.

The Wokyis M5 is available for pre-order on Kickstarter, with delivery expected in September. Indeed, this quirky gadget seems to have captivated its audience. On Kickstarter, with an initial goal of €4,314, it has reached €108,939 with 824 backers. Note that it is set to ship worldwide.

There are two models, one offering 10 Gbit/s for $169 (currently $109). A second model at 80 Gbit/s also offers faster SSD transfer speeds and a DisplayPort 2.1 supporting 8K/60 Hz for $389, also currently discounted to $209.
