At the heart of this new MacBook Air, which you can read about in our full review, lies the brand new M4 chip. Developed by Apple, it promises ultra-fast performance: 4K video editing, application development, and of course, new features enhanced by Apple Intelligence with macOS Sequoia.

The MacBook Air comes with a Liquid Retina display measuring either 13.6 or 15.3 inches with up to 500 nits of brightness, Touch ID, and Magic Keyboard. In terms of connectivity, it features Wi-Fi 6E (which may make some at the editorial office cringe) and Bluetooth 5.3. It also offers MagSafe charging, two Thunderbolt 4 ports for connecting accessories like external storage drives and security keys, as well as a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

Compared to the previous generation, the MacBook Air M4 features a 10-core CPU and a GPU with up to 10 cores, and unified memory up to 32 GB, making the new MacBook Air up to twice as fast as the model with the M1 chip. All machines come standard with a 256 GB SSD and 16 GB of unified memory (up from 8 GB previously), allowing for smoother management of resource-intensive software. Of course, it’s still possible to upgrade, at extra cost (+1000 euros for the 2 TB SSD and +500 euros to reach 32 GB of RAM).

The MacBook Air with the M4 chip offers a new level of performance:

• Spreadsheet calculations in Microsoft Excel are up to 4.7 times faster than the fastest MacBook Air with Intel and up to 1.6 times faster than the MacBook Air 13 inch with M1.
• Video editing in iMovie is up to 8 times faster than the fastest MacBook Air with Intel and up to 2 times faster than the MacBook Air 13 inch with M1.
• Photo editing in Adobe Photoshop is up to 3.6 times faster than the fastest MacBook Air with Intel and up to 2 times faster than the MacBook Air 13 inch with M1.
• Web browsing is up to 60% faster compared to a laptop equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor, and more demanding tasks are up to 2 times faster.

In terms of style, Apple is finally introducing some color with this beautiful sky blue (like the iPad mini 7?). Classic silver, starlight, and midnight are also available. The MacBook Air M4 maintains its ultra-thin and lightweight design while being more robust.

A major new feature for this generation, the MacBook Air M4 now supports up to two 6K external displays (in addition to its built-in display) — a first for an Air model! Regarding battery life, Apple announces up to 18 hours of use.

The webcam also sees a significant improvement: the MacBook Air M4 adopts a 12 MP camera with Center Stage. This technology keeps you centered in the image during video calls, automatically adjusting as you move. It’s a perfect feature for video conferences and professional presentations.

With macOS Sequoia, the MacBook Air M4 is of course compatible with Apple Intelligence. This suite of AI tools allows you to automate tasks, write intelligent texts, and get instant answers thanks to artificial intelligence capabilities directly integrated into the system.
