At the heart of this new MacBook Air, which you can read a full review of, lies the brand-new M4 chip. Developed by Apple, it promises ultra-fast performance: editing 4K videos, developing apps, and of course, the new features powered by Apple Intelligence with macOS Sequoia.
The MacBook Air features a Liquid Retina display of 13.6 or 15.3 inches with up to 500 nits of brightness, Touch ID, and Magic Keyboard. In terms of connectivity, it benefits from Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. It also offers MagSafe charging, two Thunderbolt 4 ports for connecting accessories like external storage drives and security keys, as well as a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
Compared to the previous generation, the MacBook Air M4 features a 10-core CPU and a GPU of up to 10 cores, and a unified memory that can reach up to 32 GB, making the new MacBook Air up to twice as fast as the model with the M1 chip
. All machines come standard with a 256 GB SSD and 16 GB of unified memory (up from 8 GB previously), allowing for smoother handling of demanding software. It will, of course, be possible to upgrade for additional costs (+1000 euros for the 2 TB SSD and +500 euros for 32 GB of RAM).
• Spreadsheet computation in Microsoft Excel is up to 4.7 times faster than the fastest Intel MacBook Air and up to 1.6 times faster than the 13-inch MacBook Air with M1.
• Video editing in iMovie is up to 8 times faster than the fastest Intel MacBook Air and up to 2 times faster than the 13-inch MacBook Air with M1.
• Photo editing in Adobe Photoshop is up to 3.6 times faster than the fastest Intel MacBook Air and up to 2 times faster than the 13-inch MacBook Air with M1.
• Web browsing is up to 60% faster compared to a laptop equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor, and more demanding tasks are up to twice as fast.
On the style front, Apple finally introduces color with this beautiful sky blue (like the iPad mini 7?). Also available are the classic silver, starlight, and midnight. The MacBook Air M4 retains its ultra-thin and lightweight design while being more robust.
