Aqara Smart Lock U200
The Chinese manufacturer Aqara continues to deliver effective home automation products at affordable prices. The latest offering is the Smart Lock U200, eagerly anticipated by enthusiasts of smart home devices, especially those within the Apple ecosystem, as it ticks many boxes for them.
Matter and HomeKey Compatibility
Launched in August, the Smart Lock U200 boasts an impressive spec sheet that includes compatibility with most U.S. and European locks and Matter over Thread support. This allows it to integrate seamlessly into several major ecosystems, including Apple (Home), Amazon (Alexa), Google, and Samsung (SmartThings).
Moreover, this model is the first on the market in our region to support Apple’s HomeKey feature. This means you can unlock your door simply by bringing your iPhone or Apple Watch close to the lock. Some other locks, like those from Nuki, even support geolocation, allowing for unlocking without needing to take your iPhone out of your pocket. However, it’s important to note that using this feature requires a HomeKit hub at home, such as a HomePod or an Apple TV.
The motorized lock comes equipped with a keypad for entering access codes and a fingerprint reader, enhancing home access without the need to physically hand over keys. This can be particularly useful for restricting access to certain times or days, or for those who do not wish to give keys to children or individuals needing occasional access.
The lock is IPX5 certified and powered by rechargeable batteries which, according to the manufacturer, last about 6 months. Alternatively, it can be powered through a wired 12/24V connection (the keypad requires AAA batteries and can also be wired).
